In the cluttered world of health services and pharmacy, Walgreen’s new positioning puts them on the “Corner of Healthy & Happy” – owning their own historic blend and a unique POV on how health happens. 520 collective’s ethnographic research helped uncover this point of view that has helped create new store environments, an innovative loyalty program as well as a powerful new ad campaign.
Sometimes segmentations miss the biggest common denominators that move markets and make movements. For OWN the big idea was “Grow You” – creating a personal growth network as big as Oprah’s own personality.
In 2005, our “purpose-based” branding work for a major presidential candidate uncovered a new vision for collaborative leadership — starting from the ground up.

How are leaders born?
Leadership is not a title or position, it is a point of view, a disposition and most importantly a set of essential skills that help people take ownership of their lives and deal with challenges in a whole new way. Leaders are creative, rather than reactive. They are not victims or followers, but people who move forward with clarity and are not afraid to create needed change. Leadership starts from the inside out – with a conscious awareness of our own power that leads to collaboration with others to create change. Through a combination of Awareness, Agency, Community and Action, grassroots leadership can move mountains.

Human beings are ultra-social learners. We imitate, we learn from stories as well as
experiences, we can understand intentions, we can try what someone wants us to do.
We know from neuroscience that watching or imagining can be the equivalent of doing
(Thank your mirror neurons).
Children excel at social learning – being able to learn quickly from each other more than
other species (see the awesome NPR article here).
So I don’t have to experience everything to learn something. AND you can learn from
what I experience. You may even try to do something that I’ve failed at because you
know its something that we ultimately want to do.
If that’s true, perhaps all of this social connectivity through media and is leading to

Here we stand on the shoulders of giants.
Jung coined the phrase “Collective Unconscious” to describe the vast reservoir
primordial thoughts and mythical motifs (archetypes) that seem to be innate and
inherited in the human species – like the basic pattern of muscle and bone we all have
in common. With the power of the collective, as species, we don’t have to re-create the
wheel of all of the knowledge that’s come before us. Wow.
